Register Domains with NameCheap

transfer domain nameThere are two very good domain name registers on the internet. The first being NameCheap and the second being Godaddy. The only reason why I list Godaddy second is because I have had so many problems with them over the years. This has been from domain names to no doubt the worst hosting on the planet!

There are a number of extensions or TLD’s which you can register with NameCheap. When you enter the website you have the ability to check what is available. Type in your domain name and click on the drop down list to see which tld you want to have for your website. Once you have picked your domain name extension click next to check if it is available.

One you click on next they will check the domain and also the extension which you had picked for the domain name.  The following screen is what you will see. This will tell you if the domain name and the extension is available. If the extension is not available it will show you which tld’s are available to register. This screen is for the domain name www.mydomain.org. As you can see all the domains are taken for this domain.

Now lets use another name to check a new domain. We used www.75j.com as a domain we want to buy and see what we get then. If it is a popular domain name then it is very difficult to obtain however we have listed how to back-order a domain which might become available. Look at the screen for this domain as listed.

As you can see the .com extension is taken and the .net is available but at a premium price. This one is rather expensive. The next good option is the .org extension. As stated in the domain names post the .biz and others outside of the BIG 3 being .com, .net and .org don’t rank very well in Google search results.

Now if you want the .org name simply place a tick in the box and click next. There are now a number of options which we explain below.

  • 1. You have the option of registering the domain name for up to 10 years
  • 2. WhoisGuard is free for the first year. You can register it for 9 years at $2.88/year
  • 3. There are options for an SSL certificate if you plan on ecommence and taking money online
  • 4. There is also a hosting option but this is always a bad idea with domain registrars.

Now if you are buying the domain look on the left-hand side and you notice that you have the option of adding a ‘discount coupon’ from NameCheap to give you a discount. We have listed the last 3 months NameCheap discount coupons on this website. See the pages on the right of this website. Type the coupon into the Coupon Code slot and you price comes down.

Once this is done it asks you for your details and also takes you to either Paypal or to a credit card processor to pay for the domain name and any other service you had selected.
